Fall 2020
Electra founded by Dr. John Langford with the goal to build aircraft that decarbonize aviation and make high-speed air transport accessible for every community. Profs. John Hansman and Mark Drela of MIT join as key technical advisors.  
Spring 2021
Electra joins the US Air Force’s Agility Prime program. Initial programs funds the build of high-fidelity aerodynamics models and simulation. This work validated the ability of non-expert pilots to control the eSTOL in the traditionally challenging slow-speed flight regime and execute repeated precision landings.
Summer 2021
Began testing STOL operations with a flying testbed. Launched our 9seat eSTOL product.
Fall 2021
Started performance and acoustics tests with our custom electric propulsors at Electra’s R&D facility in Bleienbach, Switzerland.
Winter 2021
Lockheed Martin joins Electra as strategic investor.
Tested our custom integrated turbo-generator and successfully demonstrated battery pack thermal runaway containment.
Spring 2022
Electra’s order book surpasses break-even with customers spanning urban and regional air mobility, VIP and charter, cargo logistics and emergency response operations. Electra acquires Airflow further strengthening its team.
Summer 2022
Completed fully integrated hybrid-electric propulsion system test. Commenced 2-seat, piloted tech demonstrator airframe build. Electra joins the NASA National Campaign.
Fall 2022
Electra flew its first electric aircraft.
Spring 2023
U.S. Air Force Awards Electra Strategic Funding Partnership Valued up to $85M.
Summer 2023
Electra unveils full-scale technology demonstrator aircraft to begin flight testing its proprietary eSTOL technology.
Fall 2023
Electra Completes World’s First Hybrid-Electric eSTOL Aircraft Flight.
