Electra founded by Dr. John Langford with the goal to build aircraft that decarbonize aviation and make high-speed air transport accessible for every community. Profs. John Hansman and Mark Drela of MIT join as key technical advisors.
Electra joins the US Air Force’s Agility Prime program. Initial programs funds the build of high-fidelity aerodynamics models and simulation. This work validated the ability of non-expert pilots to control the eSTOL in the traditionally challenging slow-speed flight regime and execute repeated precision landings.
Began testing STOL operations with a flying testbed. Launched our 9seat eSTOL product.
Started performance and acoustics tests with our custom electric propulsors at Electra’s R&D facility in Bleienbach, Switzerland.
Lockheed Martin joins Electra as strategic investor. Tested our custom integrated turbo-generator and successfully demonstrated battery pack thermal runaway containment.
Electra’s order book surpasses break-even with customers spanning urban and regional air mobility, VIP and charter, cargo logistics and emergency response operations. Electra acquires Airflow further strengthening its team.
Completed fully integrated hybrid-electric propulsion system test. Commenced 2-seat, piloted tech demonstrator airframe build. Electra joins the NASA National Campaign.
Electra flew its first electric aircraft.
